Brief Description
In Linnaeus’ Flower Clock a woman fearing that the intensity of her present happiness will fade over time repeatedly evokes images that embody physical and emotional fulfilment in order to extend ‘ now’ and etch it in her memory. In doing so she attempts to build a personal clock showing her inner time, as opposed to a mechanical timepiece. Her failure to halt time is shown in the temporal continuity of the video, and the sight of the flowers opening and closing on time. Accepting that life goes on because all things pass forces people to concentrate on the present, and gives life to their memories. - Midori Matsui
